Prof. Petja Houdjakov and his

Bolschoi Don Cossacks

Prof. Petja Houdjakov

Petja – everybody calls him so – is an all-rounder: artist, dancer, choreograph, singer, composer, musician, showman ... He comes from an old Cossack family from Rostov on Don. He was born on 4th of August 1935. Already in his younger days he showed a talent for sports; later he dedicated himself to the ballet.

He danced in Sofia, Dresden, Vienna and St. Petersburg. In addition to the Russian folk dance which is often acrobatic and to the classical repertoire, he was an outstanding tap dancer.

Petja never stopped playing the accordion and he continuously brought it to perfection. He accompanies himself when singing the Russian “chansons” and the “street songs”, often composed by himself. Also his Cossacks like it when he accompanies them. For more than 40 year Petja is the Director of the choir “ Bolschoi Don Cossacks”. Thanks to his intuition, he brings out the maximum in the personalities of the different artists. And many of the singers are members of the choir for more than 25 years.
